I’m a little late on this, but given I wasn’t the best at keeping up with blogging this year, I wanted to do a quick roundup of some of the highlights of our 2018. It was our first full year living in Geneva, Switzerland after moving here in September of 2017, and we finally started to feel settled in. After back to back winters, moving from the Southern hemisphere at just the wrong time, the spring and summer felt magical as we took to exploring the nearby Alps, both on our own and with the help of friends and family that came and visited. I could go on and on about all we did and learned this year, but I’ll do my best to keep it brief with the help of lots of photos. Continue reading “2018 Highlights”
From the Andes to the Alps: Embracing Our Next Adventure
At our wedding, just over 2 years ago, we had guests sign a copy of “Oh,The Places You’ll Go!” by Dr. Seuss, in lieu of a traditional guest book. At that time we had been discussing the possibility of an international move, but had no idea where we would be living in 6 months time. We never could have anticipated that in 2 short years, we would be preparing for our second inter-continental move. Yet, here we are. Fresh Eyes: Sharing Chile with Friends and Family
After over a year of living in Santiago, much of the newness and novelty has worn off. Sure, there are still the intermittent reminders that we’re “not in Kansas anymore”, but overall, Santiago has really started to feel like home. So, during two recent visits from my parents and my friend Jenn, it was refreshing to get to experience so many of the places and things that have become routine to us through fresh eyes. What I Learned From A Popcorn Ceiling
The other night, Matt and I sat on our bed, relaxing after a busy day. Matt was reclined, with his head on a pillow, eyes facing upward toward the ceiling. After a few moments of silence he turned to me and asked, “What do you think about when you stare at the ceiling?” Continue reading “What I Learned From A Popcorn Ceiling”
Cheers to a year!
It’s been one year since Matt and I stood in front of our closest friends and family, and made a vow to stand by each other for the rest of our lives. So much has happened between now and then, part of me can’t believe it’s only been one year. But, on the other hand, that day, so full of joy and love seems like it was just yesterday. Continue reading “Cheers to a year!”
Down Came the Rain and Washed the Smog Right Out
We moved to Santiago just shy of 2 months ago and, until this week, we hadn’t seen a single drop of rain. For a couple of mid-westerners, this kind of consistent weather isn’t something we are even remotely accustomed to, but I have to admit, I got used to it pretty quickly. A Few Of My Favorite Things… The Best Places to Eat & Drink in Cincinnati
As the countdown to our final day in Cincinnati continues, I can’t help but reflect on some of the things I’m going to miss most about living here. There are the people, of course, who I will miss first and foremost, but beyond that there are so many places that have become part of my day to day life here.

Lenten Reflections: 40 Ways to Make the Most of the Season
The Lenten season is nearly upon us. For many of us, that means spending time thinking about what we’re going to “give up” for the next 40 days. This year, though, I am trying to shift my focus away from what I want to give up and instead focus on what I want to get out of Lent. Continue reading “Lenten Reflections: 40 Ways to Make the Most of the Season”
It started in low, then it started to grow: How Boston Became a Real Life Whoville.
It’s no secret that the tales spun by Dr. Seuss are popular from more than
just their whimsical rhymes and colorful illustrations. The stories, which he tells
with such great flare, always leave us with a lesson. They warn against being
too wasteful, too greedy or too lazy. They urge us to try new things, to believe in
ourselves, and to use our imagination. While the lessons themselves vary, there is an underlying theme throughout Seuss’ works: the perseverance of the human spirit. We see it time and time again. Seuss’ characters stay the course, rise above adversity, and triumph in the face of evil.
Perhaps you will say that such triumph is just for storybooks. Continue reading “It started in low, then it started to grow: How Boston Became a Real Life Whoville.”
